Program Launched to Improve Heart Surgery Outcomes (PROACT)

January 25, 2013

Bend, OR – Clear Catheter Systems announces the launch of PROACT ™ (Prevent Retained-blood Outcomes with Active Clearance Technology), a continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiative for hospitals that aims  to reduce costly complications and readmissions after heart surgery. PROACT targets complications caused by fluid retained in the chest (effusions) after heart surgery, which is a leading cause of readmissions nationally. With penalties for readmissions as part of the Affordable Care Act, Clear Catheter Systems is teaming up with hospitals to implement protocols and technologies that effectively reduce the occurrence of retained fluid complications.

As part of the PROACT program, hospitals are implementing PleuraFlow® Active Clearance Technology™ (ACT) , an award winning technology developed by heart surgeons to promote fluid evacuation in the postoperative period, The technology enables clinicians to actively clear thrombus that forms inside of the post-surgical tubes. Studies have demonstrated that by proactively managing chest tube obstruction, evacuation of post-surgical blood is significantly improved, and less fluid is retained in the chest.

Clear Catheter Systems will be exhibiting this technology at the upcoming 49th Annual Society of Thoracic Surgery (STS) meeting in Los Angeles on January 27-29th.
